Join your neighbors in Rutland for Rights & Democracy's Democracy Summer Town Hall tour featuring speakers and music by Gypsy Reel!

The spring 2017 legislative session in Vermont lacked both a rejection of the Trump agenda and a bold vision for the state we seek to build.  As grassroots leaders, starting with RAD’s People’s Agenda Rally on January 4, we have seen and participated in many rallies and marches in opposition to toxic legislation and in support of legislation that would support us and our communities. But, it is time to take our work to the next level.

Looking toward the 2018 session, as well as next years spring and fall elections, it is critical that we continue to build momentum over this summer and fall, organizing, training, and bringing people together to take action on issues in our local communities and to build leadership in our collective movement for progressive change.

Join your neighbors, RAD Leaders and Legislators to advance our movement to win:

  • Economic Justice - Pressure Governor Scott to not veto $15 & Paid Family & Medical Leave in 2018 and build constituent support in swing legislators’ districts on those issues

  • Healthcare Justice - Articulate the need to resist the GOP healthcare agenda at the federal level (and the cuts that would result in VT), pressure Governor Phil Scott who has failed to take a stand for Vermonters healthcare, and, most importantly, loudly call for equitably and publicly financed, single-payer healthcare (Act 48) in our state.

  • Environmental Justice (Energy Democracy + Clean Water) - Advance the conversation around how we move toward a 100% renewable energy economy while maintaining local autonomy and democracy participation in shaping our energy systems.  Build campaigns to push for better stormwater systems and require municipalities to immediately notify the public in the case of any new drinking water violations.

  • Racial Justice - The Racial Justice Reform Coalition (of which RAD is a member) had a victory this past legislative session to enact an historic piece of racial justice legislation that will begin to address racial disparities and implicit bias in Vermont's justice system, and other keystone public services. However, we know that we have much more work to do in Vermont, and this nation, to end structural oppression.

Event speakers include:
