I support a Vermont where:

  • Every working person earns a livable wage and has dignified working conditions.

  • Everyone has access to quality healthcare, education, affordable housing and social supports paid for with a progressive and fair tax system.

  • We have an economy that creates good jobs while taking bold action to protect the environment and address climate change.

I like the positive tone of the statement above; it’s “for” not “against.” It is, in a sense, not a political statement but a moral one, and, as such, it’s very inclusive.

My only concern (I attended the Boston March) is how we can include the Christians who oppose abortion on an “agree to disagree” basis, supporting choice nonetheless. This is the issue that hard line, right wing operators (like Kellyanne Conway) will use to create division and discredit the movement, and if we can find the high ground on this one, we’ll thwart that effort. We need to demonstrate that we can embrace differences in our own ranks.

A lot of conservative Christian women support all of the the rest of the values you’ve listed, and it’s important that they have a place and a voice. (I, by the way, support the right to an abortion but I have Catholic friends who would like to be part of this, but feel unwelcome). For example, are you aware of the grassroots Catholic divestiture push?
